About The Event

Discover the perfect experience for your lifestyle, skills, and professional goals. If you have a good experience as a volunteer you’re more likely to stick with it, grow as a leader, and impact change in your community. We will also review where to find volunteer opportunities in your area of interest.

Dr. Ivy R. Buchan fell in love with volunteerism and board governance in high school as president of a community service club. While working at a domestic violence shelter in college she decided to focus her career on the nonprofit sector. For the last 20 years Ivy has worked with nonprofits to raise funds and develop their leaders and programs. Since starting Helix Strategies four years ago, Ivy and her team use strategic solutions for fundraising and leadership challenges. She earned her Ph.D. from IUP in Administration and Leadership Studies in the Nonprofit Sector with a concentration on multidisciplinary team collaboration, which comes in handy while working with boards. In addition, Ivy is a Licensed Consultant through PANO’s Standards for Excellence, co-founded two nonprofits, edited three nonprofit textbooks, is an active member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, and serves on several community boards including the Susquehanna Valley Council of Charitable Gift Planners. Her proudest career moment was winning the Central Penn Business Journal’s Women of Influence Community Achievement Award in 2018.
